Course Description: 

A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who performs routine clinical and administrative tasks to keep medical facilities running smoothly. In addition, Medical Assistants must possess strong interpersonal skills to work with medical personnel and patients. They must be able to put patients at ease, explain physician’s instructions, respect the confidential nature of medical information and perform all duties with a high level of professionalism.

Program Goal: 

To prepare students to enter the field of Medical Assisting or to attend a post secondary institution for further studies in this career path.

Projects and Experiences: 

Students will participate in clinics throughout the two years, focusing on body systems, patient screenings and clinical assisting skills.

Students volunteer with blood drives, Special Olympics, Hospice, health fairs, and career days. Medical Assisting students also prepare health related projects and work with a comprehensive set of administrative skills.  Internships with medical facilities will be ongoing throughout the second year.

Students are required to create a professional portfolio showcasing their knowledge and experiences.

Assessments: 

Students will be assessed based on work performance task sheets, participation, workplace skills, and interaction in the classroom as well as written assessments.
