Course Description: 

Today’s technology gives us more chances to reach out to the world than ever before.  Students will learn how to use these technologies as well as traditional methods to impact their future and career.  Students will be challenged to test these technologies in changing the way they think and work together.  They will learn to be the designers in an ever changing world.

Program Goal: 

The Media Communications program has been designed to give students the technical skills and hands-on experience they need to pursue a wide range of interests and opportunities. Every aspect of the Media Communications course is influenced by a team of industry leaders who know firsthand what is needed to be successful in the entry level work force or for further education.

Projects and Experiences: 

As a student you will have the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of internship options.  You will be able to apply your knowledge and understanding to solve communications goals and needs in your internship.  Media students will be prepared for exciting careers and studies in design, advertising, illustration, photography, video and audio technology as well as web animation and game design.  Students are required to create a professional portfolio showcasing their knowledge and experiences.

Assessments: 

Students will be assessed based on work performance task sheets, participation, workplace skills, and interaction in the classroom as well as written assessments.

Students take the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam in Visual Communications and Multimedia Design.

Assessment is also done by a final hard copy or web-based portfolio.

Certifications: 

May earn New York State Technical Endorsement on high school diploma

Local Employment Opportunities: 

The Media Communications program prepares students for exciting careers in graphic design, advertising, illustration, photography, video technology, web design, audio technology, animation, game technology and a vast array of other employment opportunities related to communications. Job opportunities exist in various fields. Locally, many artists work for themselves or contract with companies. Others work in public relations or communications offices for colleges, hospitals, schools, agencies, towns or businesses.
