Course Description: 

In the Early Childhood program, students learn about the characteristics, needs, and behavior of young children. After learning basic skills, students operate a nursery school for practical experience. They prepare, plan, and execute the daily nursery school program. Internships are available at other facilities in order to explore various career choices in the human services field. Increased need for preschool education, day-care programs, and human services creates a demand for jobs in this field

Program Goal: 

To prepare students for a career or further study in the fields of education and human services.

Projects and Experiences: 

Students will participate in a preschool learning lab at the Career and Technical Education Center. Internships and partnerships with home schools will be ongoing throughout the 2nd year. Classroom and lab work is rigorous, relevant to the career field, and prepares students for success in the post secondary educational setting. Students are required to create a professional portfolio showcasing their knowledge and experiences.

Assessments: 

Students will be assessed based on work performance task sheets, participation, workplace skills, and interaction in the classroom as well as written assessments.

National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam in Early Childhood Care and Education
