Course Description: 

Collision Repair Technology (Auto Body) covers all aspects of collision repair and finish work on vehicles. In the shop setting, students experience the methods of complete auto collision repair working on damaged vehicles. They also learn several methods of custom design finish work and accurate estimating procedures. Our Collision Repair shops are state-of-the-art and are evolving from solvent based paint to the latest environmentally friendly technology of low emission, water borne paint with down draft paint booths.

Crash estimating, unibody and frame restructuring techniques, glass removal and installation, plastic repair techniques in sheet molding compounds and thermoplastics, refinishing and resurfacing techniques, steering and suspension systems, computer systems and electrical diagnostics, computerized custom color mixing of paint, techniques of paint application, MIG welding, aluminum welding and resistant spot welding, plasma cutting, collision repair, aluminum repair, rust repair, safety restraints inspection, installation, and repair, auto detailing, auto marketing skills

Program Goal: 

To prepare the individual for a challenging and rewarding career in the field of Collision Repair Technology. Students learn automotive structure, become familiar with the tools used in collision repair, and master a variety of repair techniques. The class gives students a solid foundation, and the required certification, for entry level work in the collision field or for further study in this growing industry.

Projects and Experiences: 

This program offers extensive opportunities to develop and practice the handson skills necessary to perform repairs and finishing techniques on vehicles. Students experience authentic repair practices by working on damaged vehicles. Projects include frame straightening and repair, various body damage repairs, and refurbishing and refinishing multiple surfaces. Students may also participate in capstone projects with other career classes. Painting and refinishing techniques and methods are practiced so that students may build and refine their skills in these areas. Students are required to create a professional portfolio showcasing their knowledge and experiences.

Assessments: 

Students will be assessed based on work performance task sheets, participation, workplace skills, interaction in the classroom as well as written exams. All students participate in the I-Car curriculum.
