Course Description: 

The Building Technology course affords students the opportunity to experience the basics in a multitude of trade areas. You will learn the skills necessary to: construct foundations, build rough framing, install insulation, finish interiors, and create fine cabinet work, as well as install residential plumbing and electrical systems. This two year program provides students with basic knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in building trades. Shop safety and a safe work environment are a fundamental part of the class. Students will spend time in the classroom and may participate in a field experience as well. Students who complete this course are prepared for entry level employment in the building technology field.

Program Goal: 

To prepare students for a challenging and rewarding career in the field of Building Technology. Students obtain knowledge of many skills and tools used in this career path. The class creates a solid foundation for entry level work in the building technology field or for further study in this growing industry.

Projects and Experiences: 

This program offers a variety of learning both in the world of work through jobshadowing and internships, and in the classroom. All students will experience live work situations that meet industry and code standards. Students will experience hands-on learning of the various elements of building trades and the use of woodshop tools.

Students are required to create a professional portfolio showcasing their knowledge and experiences

Assessments: 

Students are assessed using a wide variety of grading systems. Students are assessed based on industry standards, local and state building codes as well as participation, co-operation, job performance skills and written work.
