Course Description: 

The goal of the program is to introduce students to many aspects of the audio and visual mediums that are currently being used in music and audio applications and visual production. Our visual work focuses on photo framing and composition, cinematography techniques and 2D animation with green screen. In audio, we currently focus on music multitrack recording, effect process engineering and scoring for visual productions.

Program Goal: 

To prepare students for careers and further study in audio and visual media.

Projects and Experiences: 

Students will gain a working understanding and practice a wide variety of applications associated with the industry standard software including Adobe Photoshop, Audition, Pro Tools, After Effects, Avid and Sony Acid programs.
Applications of software include:
Creating music scores for all video productions
Multi-track music writing, performance and post mixing
Graphic layout and design of CD and DVD jackets and promotional flyers
2D animation and green screen CG
Film making, including filming, editing and scoring
Commercial production
Broadcast journalism
Music videos

Assessments: 

Students will be assessed based on participation and interaction in the classroom as well as written tests.

The field work will be assessed on a daily basis through mentor/ instructor observation of student participation, professionalism, personal appearance, ability to follow directions and safety rules, willingness to learn, and student interaction with staff.

Students will also complete and submit a daily field work rotation self assessment.

National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam in Television Broadcasting

May earn New York State Technical Endorsement on high school diploma

All local radio stations, Buffalo television stations including WIVB and WGR, Web site creators, Television commercial production including Time Warner Cable, Public Relations departments for all major industry and community services, Times Herald.
